National Waffle Day

Yesterday was national waffle day. Yes you read that right there is such a thing as national waffle day J Well that was all this Momma needed to know in order to break out the waffle iron for dinner. I decided that in celebration of waffles everywhere we would have to make them really special.

Then you tell your children they get to eat this for dinner you might get a face like this.

And then a plate that looks like this.

My five year old ate 5!! My three year old ate three bites and licked the toppings off the rest :-/

Still they had fun and it really made me think. They are small for such a short period of time and I really want them to have good memories of their childhood and remember all the fun times we had together as a family. These silly “holidays” are a great and inexpensive way to make memories with my kids. If you are looking to make your own memories today is National Banana Split Day! I think I’m going to like this! Car Seat Canopy

Back at the beginning of February we welcomed our third child into our family. I have noticed there are so many new things out for babies these days and one I just had to have was a car seat canopy. These attach to the handle of your infant car seat and block the light and wind off your baby. Plus I feel like it is a sign for strangers that says “Yes there is a baby in there and no you cannot touch him!” Anyway I digress. I looked at these on Etsy.com and they are $30 and up plus shipping! I knew I could do it for less than that. I made this one for about $12. All you need is 2 yards of fabric and some Velcro. I probably could have made it even cheaper if I had shopped around a little for the fabric. It probably took me about an hour total to make it. I think it turned out great. I used this tutorial for guidance. I did not make mine reversible. We love ours and I think these would make a great baby shower gift. If you decide to make one please take a picture and send it in!

I know that not everyone has a Sprouts near them but if you do you can score some amazing produce and meat deals. Okay to be honest the meat deals are not cheaper than I can get meat on sale at Kroger or Albertson’s but I personally like the quality better. Now the produce can be a very good deal. I have to drive a little to get to my store so I only go once or twice a month. My Sprouts does double ad days on Wednesdays so every Wednesday you can get the previous week and the next week’s sale prices. Because of this I always try to go on Wednesday. Here are a few things on sale this week. You can see a full ad here. Bean-and-Ham Soup

This is my friend Alycia’s recipe for Ham and Bean Soup. To make this more cost effect I like to use dried beans. You can check out this post for direction on how to cook dried beans in a crockpot. This not only makes the recipe less expensive but also healthier since canned beans contain a lot of sodium.

3 (15.8 oz) cans Great Northern Beans, divided
1 (14 oz) can chicken broth divided
2 tablespoons butter
1 small onion, diced
8 ounces cooked ham, cubed
¼ teaspoon pepper

Melt butter in a Large pot over medium heat. Add onion, and sauté 5 minutes or until onion is tender. Add ham, and sauté 10 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring constantly. Rinse and drain beans. Process one-third can of beans and half of chicken broth in a food processor until smooth. I use my immersion blender. Add bean puree, remaining beans, and remaining chicken broth. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Stir in pepper. Serve immediately.

My kids love this soup and it is a great way to use up leftover ham around the holidays. The ham for our soup this week is Turkey ham that I got on sale at Aldi.

Since the birth of my third baby I have been itching to get back to blogging but I really don’t want to blog just about couponing anymore. Let’s face it everyone is trying to live frugally these days and that means more than just using coupons. I have let frugal living spill over to all aspects of my life and although I still use coupons it is not my full focus anymore. The Wackiest Wildest Weirdest Animals in the World by Jack Hanna

I just had the opportunity to review The Wackiest Wildest Weirdest Animals in the World by Jack Hanna. This is a great book for kids and adults alike. I had to pry the book away from my three year old just so I could look at it to do this review. It is pretty big so the pictures are large and of course colorful. There are 30 different animals featured. Each one has it's own page and at least one large color photograph. Every animal has basic facts listed about it such as what they eat, where the live, and how big they are. Then you can read why Jack thinks they are wild, weird, or wacky plus read a couple other fun facts about them. This is a great book for anyone interested in animals or for teaching children. My three year old loves to look at the pictures and let me tell her about the animals but I think older children would really like this book too. It would make a great gift. The drug stores are tricky and there are always new coupons, rebates, and clearance items to make the most of your money.

My hand already hurts at the thought but there are supposed to be 4 inserts this Sunday. Its good for us deal seekers but bad news for our scissors. Deals can vary a little by region but Coupon Clippers usually has a pretty good preview. If you would like to see what's coming out this Sunday you can go to Coupon Clippers and click on the Tracker feature. This brings me to another question. How do you organizer your coupons? I use the binder method but it seems to be a lot of work. I am looking for something a little less time consuming. Please share how you organizer your coupons below.

Target Coupons

I just wanted to let everyone know I went to Target yesterday and had a little bit of trouble. They are really cracking down on you being able to use only one of each Target coupon per transaction. I had four of some so needless to say I was a bit frustrated. The cashier really wanted to just go ahead and take them but her manager wouldn't let her. At first the manager told me I couldn't do multiple transactions to use them either but I made it clear that I was going to go get in another line if I had to she let me do four transactions. I was very apologetic to them but firmly let them know that times were tough and I needed to use these coupons. We all know there are programs to limit the number of times a person can print a coupon so if Target doesn't want you to print them so many time then they need to change their system.

Here is another book review for Thomas Nelson Publishing. If you have a blog and want to learn how you can review books too go here. I recently received the book His Name is Jesus by Max Lucado. Let me first start by saying the quality of this book in amazing. It is a beautiful hardback book filled with high quality glossy pages and pictures plus the book comes in a heavy cardboard slip case to protect it. The pictures in the book are gorgeous and match the inspirational words of the book perfectly. The stories, references, and commentary in the book are actually all from twenty of Max Lucado's other books. I had never read any of them so it was all new for me but if you were buying this as a gift for someone who really likes Max Lucado there is no new material in this book. I thought it was a very inspirational and beautiful book. It would make an excellent gift. I think I say this every time I review a book with biblical references but I really wish they had used the original King James version of the bible. I know a lot of people find the language harder to read and understand but I like it a lot better. Still this was a beautiful book and would make a good addition to anyone's library.

Sorry guys I have had a lot going on and have not been blogging at all. Here are some current deals from our favorite blogs.

Hip2Save has some great Target deals up. One of the best things about Target is they have their own coupons that you can print online and you can use them with a manufacture's coupon. For example if you have the B1G1 free coupon for Kraft Easy Mac you can use it with the Target printable coupon for $1/2. You would actually make money on this deal because the regular price is only 77¢. My favorite site for Target coupons is Organic Grocery Deals. You have to register to use their site.

Money Saving Mom has up a good post on the current Walgreen's Deals. I also noticed an in ad coupon for $1.79 for Blue Diamond Almonds which are a favorite snack food in our family. Plus I have a 50¢/1 coupon from a recent insert making them $1.29!

Couponing101 has up posts for CVS and the current Albertson's and Kroger ad match ups which end tomorrow. If you are headed to Kroger they have Kraft cheese on sale 3/$5 and right now Coupons.com has $1/2 coupon that you can print. I have their tool bar on the right side of my blog. If you click on it then it will take you to their site. They have a lot of great coupons up right now. Be sure to press the back button after you print the first time then hit reload and your coupons will print again.

Okay guys here is another book review. I know this blog isn't really about books but I like to think it is about helping each other out. Saving money is just the biggest part of that. For me though I love to read but I have a really hard time sometimes finding "clean" books that aren't full of foul language or explicit situations. All the book I review here are from Thomas Nelson publishing. They are a Christian publisher so (at least so far) all the book I have from them are very clean. If you want to know more about becoming a reviewer you can find more information here. Now for my latest book Face of Betrayal by Lis Wiehl. Let me start this review by saying I LOVED this book. I normally read romance books but I decided to give this a try for a change of pace. It is a crime mystery book with three women as the main characters. One is an FBI agent and single mother, one a prosecutor who is married and expecting, and one is a reporter who is single. They all went to the same high school but weren't friends when they were younger. They became close later when their professional careers drew them together. The book jumps back and forth from each woman's point of view as they work together to try to solve the case of a missing girl. Normally I don't like it when an author changers perspectives but Wiehl does a great job. The story was captivating with tons of twists and turns. I don't want to give away the ending but I will say I never saw it coming. I really thought I knew what was going to happen. I did like that the story sounded believable. No non-existent super space technology like of CSI or anything else off the wall. The three women were all different and interesting in there own ways. They call themselves the Triple Threat club. I am hoping this is just the first book in the series. I loved it and will defiantly be looking for more books by this author.

Higher Hope by Robert Whitlow

I have just finished reading another free book I got from Thomas Nelson Publishing. For more information on how you can review books for free go here. This is the first fiction book I have received from them. Let me start my review by admitting that I did not realize when I ordered this book it was book two in the series. You don't have to read book one to be able to understand what’s going on in this book but I'm sure it would be helpful. Needless to say I spend the first couple of chapters a little lost. Other than that though I thought the book was fine. It is a crime drama. I like reading Christian fiction but I found the characters to a little over the top. The main character and narrator for the most part is a young woman who comes from a very strict up bringing and is struggling to adapt out side of her community. The other main female character is a minister who can "see" people's sins even when they are not confessed. Alone these characters would have been a little easier to accept but with several extreme characters it became a little over the top. I don't want to make it seem like a bad book. It was a very easy read and the story flowed well. The author wrapped up enough of the story to give some closer but there is still enough to make the reader want to read the next book in the series. Overall I would give it a 3 out of 5.

Walgreen's and CVS deals

Here are the Walgreen's Deals. There's not a lot this week but you can still get shaving cream for free and if you haven't already used your April EasySaver rebate for Physicians Formula its 40% off this week. This is the last month for the EasySaver rebate program. I for one am relieved because I find Walgreen's deals very complicated and hard to keep up with. Hopefully they will be easier now.

CVS also has some free shaving cream and some other good deals you might want to check out.

Kroger, Albertson's, & FREE laundry detergent

Couponing101 has the coupon match-ups for our favorite grocery stores up. She is trying a new format and would like your input. Kroger is in the old style and Albertson's is in the new style. If you have a preference please let her know.

Kroger has a decent ad this week with the right coupons you could get a little from every department. I will definitely be going. Remember to separate your orders if you have more than one like coupon. What I have been doing is just asking the cashier if I need to separate them or if they are going to let me use three. They usually just let me use three since the computer is still calibrated to accept and double/triple three like coupons.

Albertson's-This is the new format so be sure to check it out and let her know what you think.

Note: My Kroger has stopped carrying the 4-pack Cottonelle, which means no more free/cheap toilet paper. I plan on letting them know I am upset. Maybe if enough people ask for it then they will bring it back. Also beware that Kroger's coupon policy has changed and they now only double/triple one like coupon per transaction. The computer system still does three but some cashiers are overriding the system to make it only do one. If this is the case I would separate your purchases into several transactions.

Albertson's is having a B1G1 sale which is hard to match up because the ad doesn't show the prices so it is hard to see if it is a good deal unless you walk through the whole store.

I was skeptical too but I have been researching these offers online and they seem legitimate. You can read more about them at one of my favorite blogs Hip2Save. Here is how this one works. You go here and sign up for one offer. I did the Credit Check Total. You get a free credit report and as long as you cancel in 10 days its free. They also had a Netflix offer but I already have Netflix. Once you complete your offer log back into FreebieJeebies. Mine showed offer complete immediately. That means you can cancel your trail offer. Then you have to refer your friends. You can pick from lots of different items so the number of referrals depends on the item you choose. I picked an I-phone which is 19 referrals. You can track it all online. Once 19 people sign up and complete an offer then you get your free item! I'll keep you posted on mine. Good luck!

New book review-"In the Footsteps of Paul"

I just had a chance to review the book "In the Footsteps of Paul" put out by Thomas Nelson publishing. Whether you are looking for a book for your self or as a gift for someone this is a great choice. It is a hardback book with a beautiful jacket cover. It is by world renowned photographer Ken Duncan. He has several other books out but this was my first and I can tell you I was very impressed. The pictures are breathtaking. Each picture/page has a scripture reference and part of the story of the apostle Paul. The pictures are amazing. Some are scenery of the land and county were Paul lived his life, some are actual building or places were Paul was, and some are of art work depicting Paul's life and ministry. I found the story to be fascinating. I consider my self fairly knowledgeable but there was a lot that I did not know about him. I feel like I say this a lot but I wish they used the King James version of the bible for the scripture references. I prefer the eloquent language used in that edition of the bible but I must be alone in this thinking because it seems others prefer the more common language in newer translations. Still over all this was a beautiful and educational book that would be a great addition to anyone's library. Meal Planning

Movie Review

I just had a chance to preview the new "Read and Share DVD Bible" put out by the Thomas Nelson company. This move is great for anyone trying to share scripture stories with their toddler. There are thirteen stories on the disc. They start with the story of creation in the Old Testament and end with the story of the lost sheep from the New Testament. We use the King James version of the bible in our home so I found the stories to be very simplified. The language was much more casual than I was used to but my two year old loved it. I think it is a great tool to get the basic principles of the story across to young children. Each story is kept at 3 or 4 minutes so they would be great to use for lessons at home. My two year old sat and watched the entire disc though and wanted to see it again when it was over. She calls it the Jesus Movie. I thought they choose a good variety of stories dealing with different topics from both the Old and New Testament. This is Volume 1 and we will definitely be looking forward to seeing which stories are included in the next volume. I would recommend it for children up to age 6 or 7.

Have you ever missed a week? You can buy the whole insert or you can just order extra of your favorite coupons. When there is a good sale then you are prepared. They usually charge about 10% of the face value plus a small shipping an handling fee. It can be a really good deal.

YouData is a great way to earn from home. They pay you to look at advertisements, but way more that the average site. I usually earn $0.10-0.20 per ad. Plus they pay every Friday into your Paypal account even if they only owe you a $1. The only draw back is they are just getting started so there aren't enough e-mails to read. Free books and movies

I wanted to share with you guys a new way to earn from home. It’s not money but you can get free movies and books for yourself and your kids. You can go here for more information. Thomas Nelson is a publisher of Christian books and movies. They will send you copies to preview. Then all you have to do is write a review and post it on a blog and one commercial site (i.e. Barnes and Noble). That's it!! Then it is yours to keep. Our first item was a movie. "Skeeter and the Mystery of the Lost Mosquito Treasure" I though it was fabulous. This is from the series Hermie and Friends. This was our first Hermie and friends movie and my two year old loved it. The message is great! It is that God has created us all differently and that's okay. We are all special and everyone has things about themselves that they don't like. It this day and age were everyone is so focused on image this is a message I really want my girls to learn early on. In the movie there are two brother mosquitoes and one of them has a crooked stinger. The other brother is a very famous explorer. Of course the first brother thinks he is inferior because of his crooked stinger but through the story you learn that they both have strengths and weaknesses but that by working together they can find the treasure. There are also some really cute extra features. In the movie they keep talking about Gooey Butter Cakes and at the end they tell you how to make them with your kids and give you the recipe. This might have been our first Hermie and Friends movie but I don't think it will be our last.

Sorry guys there haven't been any posts because my computer is on the blink. In the last two days I haven't been able to get on much and when I do the computer constantly freezes up or takes a very long time to do anything. With all the extra time though I have found time to play with my kids more, get to the gym, and organize my house. That's a lot for 2 days!! I feel better and I think my family does too. Anyway with this being said I have decided to stop writing the blog. It makes me so sad. I just had business cards printed!! What am I going to do with all those business cards? So I will still be out there couponing, saving, and grabbing all the freebies I can I just won't be blogging about it any more. It's Friday so it is time for another edition of "Earn from Home". Today I am talking about Swagbucks. I have done a post on this before but I have now been usung it for a couple weeks and I wanted to give my opinion on if it is worth it or not. At first I wasn't that impressed but I realized the problem is me! I am really forgetful so I kept forgeting to use their search engine. I have started opening a Swagbucks window when I turn the computer on and then minimizing it until I need to search for something. Since then I have started earning a couple Swagbucks a day. Right now I am up to 20. I have only been really working at it a few days. A $5 Amazon gift card is 45 points so I am almost half way there. Since I am earning point for something I would be doing anyway I think it is worth it. I figure I can save my points to buy gift cards or gifts for people. The Fort Worth Symphony presents a Free Community Concert

Okay everyone I have been running this blog for a less than a month but already I am experiencing burn out. I had no idea how much time it would take. I feel like I spend my whole day looking for good deals to share. Sometimes I don't even have time to go out and get my own good deals!! So I need you advice. If you have a blog how do you do it? How much time are you spending running it? I have a nine month old and a two year old maybe my kids are just to little and still require too much time? Please leave you suggestions and comments below. I am really considering pulling the plug.

Okay I know I really need to get back to taking pictures but I keep forgetting and I put everything away and then remember darn I should have taken a picture. So sorry but it is just another list today. Here is what I got.

I paid $19.88 OOP. I saved $19.89 with sales and coupons which is 49% off the regular price. Not the best week I have every had but hey 49% is still almost half off. BTW my hubby is off today for President's Day so the posts will be kinda thin. We will be back to regular scheduled programing tomorrow.

No Coupons

I don't normally post on Sunday but I just wanted to let everyone know there are no coupons in the paper this Sunday. I'm disappointed but I guess this happens around a holiday. Monday is President's Day. I think it's a pretty lame excuse. I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.

Albertson's Trip

I also went to Albertson's yesterday. I bought the milk and bread they had on sale and then some Valentine's stuff for my hubby. So it wasn't a very exciting trip . Then at check out the cashier ask it I was collecting Monopoly game pieces. I somehow managed to earn 5 in this one little trip. When I got home and opened them I found I was an instant winner and won an 18 oz. jar of JIF peanut butter so it wasn't a wasted trip after all.

Walgreen's Trip

WOW! Did I get a deal! I went to Walgreen's in search of Scrubbing Bubble wipes (which they were still out of) and my FREE Glade Sense & Spray (from this post). Well as you will remember the Sense and Sprays were supposed to be $9.99-B1G1 Q-$4/1 Q=$5.99 for 2 then you get $3 EasySaver Rebate for each of them making them free but when I went to my Walgreen's they were only $8.99! I bought 4 because that is the EasySaver Rebate limit. I paid $10.80 with tax but I should get back $12.00 EasySaver rebate. Needless to say it you haven't gotten yours yet you should go to Walgreen's today!

Earn From Home

The question I think I have gotten the most from friends, family, and blog readers is not about saving at all. Every time I tell someone I am trying to make this blog into a part time job they ask "How are you going to do that?" Well really you do it one penny at a time. As of today I have had this blog for two weeks. That is not very long to get an accurate idea of how much money I can make but I am making some so I thought I would answer everyone's question of how in this week "Earn From Home". There are lots of resources and books out there on how to earn money. I am only telling you what I do. There maybe a better way for you.

1. If you have a blogger account the easiest way to earn is to add Google AdSense to your blog. When you are customizing your blog and you click add a gadget you can select Google AdSense. It is very easy set up your account. You get paid for impressions which is when people look at your blog thus seeing the ads and you get even more if people click on the ads. You only make pennies unless people click on your ads. If someone clicks on one of my ads it seems like I get anywhere from 15¢-40¢ per click. I'm sure it depends on Google's deal with that advertiser. This is not a way to make a lot of money but it is easy and Google does all the work in choosing ads that fit the content of your blog.

2. The way I have made the most money is by being an Affiliate. There are tons of affiliate marketing companies but I only can tell you about the three that I work with. My favorite by far is Logical Media. With this type of advertising you only get paid if your readers click on the ad and follow through. With some offers all they have to do is provide an e-mail, sometimes they sign up to receive something, sometimes they have to purchase something. It depends on the campaign. You get paid a lot more per click. I have run lots of campaigns on my site already and the commission has ranged anywhere from 65¢-$9.50 per lead. I really like their site. It is easy to use and they have hundreds of campaigns to choose from so you can find advertising to fit your blog readers.

3. I also do affiliate advertising with Commision Junction. I haven't had much success with them but you might.

4. The last company I work with is Coupons.com. They provide the coupon bar on the right side of my blog. I haven't made much with them but I get a little every time someone prints a coupon from my blog using the tool bar. I would probably have the tool bar there even if they didn't pay me because it is a great resource for my readers but don't tell them that. That is the most important thing I look for in advertising. Is it relevant to my readers. If it is something I think you can use or will help you save money or give you something for free then that's great. If not then it's probably not good for my blog.
